Francisco Zapata Bello (*1948)
Francisco Zapata Bello, Venezuelan musician, trained under the guidance of Venezuelan and foreign teachers at the Escuela Superior de Música in Caracas, the Real Conservatorio de Música in Madrid and the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg (Holland). He studied composition, orchestral conducting and choral conducting, and he also graduated in guitar at the Escuela Superior de Música of Caracas in 1977.
His activity as a composer has achieved national and international awards and recognitions, among which: Premio “José Clemente Laya” for Chamber Music (1982), Premio Municipal de Música Sinfónica (1987), Honourable Mention in the Competition for Orchestral Music “La Previsora” (1989), 2nd prize in the Contest for Choral Music (1990). In October 2001 his “Suite Variantes” for guitar was selected as the representative of Venezuela by the artistic committee of the International Festival of Contemporary Music “The World Music Days” held in Yokohama (Japan).
He has composed works for piano, guitar, symphonic orchestra, string orchestra, chamber music and choir. His works for piano and guitar have been performed in Venezuela, Ecuador, Japan, Germany, Chile, United States, Colombia.
