Efraín Silva (*1952)

After studying guitar with teachers such as Simón Viana, Rodrigo Riera, Mario Gangi, Ruggero Chiesa, Oscar Ghiglia, José Tomas and Alirio Díaz, Efraín Silva has performed in guitar solo recitals, chamber music and as a guest soloist in Europe, North America and South America, applauded by critics and audiences for his virtuosity, great sound and special expressiveness.
As a composer, he has written works for solo guitar, chamber music, and music for choir and orchestra. Some of his compositions have been edited by The Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation and the Arturo Cardozo Publishing Fund.
Efraín Silva founded and/or directed some of the most prestigious musical projects in Venezuela such as the Centro Guitarrístico de Aragua, the Conservatorio de Música del Estado Aragua, the “Vicente Mendoza” School of Music and the editions of the Encuentro Guitarrístico de Choroní since 1987.
​In Houston, Silva worked for the Foundation for Modern Music led by Robert Avalon, one of the best North American composers, now deceased. Here he served as a composer, performer, and writer for the Latin American media in order to cultivate interest in contemporary academic music.
