Koji Ueno è stato attivo con i propri gruppi rock “8 and 1/2” e “Guernica” sulla scena musicale Punk/New Wave/Techno tra i tardi anni ’70 e gli anni ’80. Le sua versatilità si è espressa nel campo del balletto, del teatro, film, spot televisivi, ecc., pubblicando numerosi album ed eseguendo musiche di propria composizione.Recentemente è diventato noto per “Koji Ueno and His Orchestra" (precedentemente conosciuto come "Ueno Koji Ensemble") con i suoi geniali arrangiamenti che associano elementi della musica classica e del jazz, per i suoi concerti accompagnati da immagini e per la musica di uno spot televisivo ("Tarako, Tarako, Tarako").
Insegna Musica da Film al Dipartimento di Cinema al College of Art della Nihon University.

Koji Ueno was asked to write this quartet for recorders by Seiko Tanaka and Daniele Bragetti. On accepting the commission, Ueno decided to consider baroque music as a starting point, and elements of fugue can be identified in the outer movements, whilst the central Andante is titled 'English Pastoral'. ... this is a serious quartet which will reward higher level players who are willing to rehearse it sufficiently. My quartet certainly relished the challenge Quartetto Pastorale presented and thoroughly enjoyed the end product achieved. (Adam J Dopadlik)
