Paolo Ugoletti, Brescian composer, began his musical studies in his home town with Giancarlo Facchinetti and Giovanni Ugolini, and later studied at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory of Milan with Giacomo Manzoni. From 1977 to 1979 he attended the specialization courses held by Franco Donatoni at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
He currently teaches Composition at the “Luca Marenzio” Conservatory of Brescia.
His extensive output ranges from various pieces for solo instruments to concertos, chamber music and symphonic works. The guitar and piano are present in nearly all his compositions.
Soundboard Vol. 40 No. 1
A very nice-looking sample from the edition of Contemporary Music for Guitar by Italian Piero Bonaguri, who also fingered this music. ... Fuga (written in 1999) is among Ugoletti's most-performed pieces, and according to Bonaguri, it proves his skill in counterpoint, which comes together with great expressiveness and a surprising knowledge of the instrument. The same polyphonic skill is demonstrated in different ways also in the other three pieces in this collection. ... For sure this set of Paolo Ugolerti's 4 Pieces for Guitar is a great contribution to the contemporary guitar repertoire.
Guitart n. 70 (aprile-giugno 2013)
(Gianluigi Giglio)
Classical Guitar Magazine (06-2012)
Let me say that this is a truly fascinating set of pieces. Paolo Ugoletti is not a guitarist but has a champion in the shape of Piero Bonaguri, who has fingered the pieces. They exhibit an almost baroque delight in voice-writing and are always melodic and tonal and as a set quite substantial too ... This was a big surprise for me, and a long time since a set of pieces by a non-guitarist composer has proved to be so effective a set. Providing you are reasonably advanced players, you are going to love this set. (Chris Dumigan)
