Louis Picquot, copista, nel suo catalogo del 1851 delle opere di Boccherini, così scriveva a proposito di un brano: «Possiedo un quintetto per due violini, due viole e violoncello arrangiato da Boccherini dall’Andantino... del quinto Trio in Mib [op.14]». Detto Quintetto fece perdere le proprie tracce alla morte di Picquot, nel 1870, ma ... il manoscritto fu alfine ritrovato in Germania nel 2010 da Fulvia Morabito, che ne ha curato la revisione, il commento e l’edizione per Ut Orpheus. ... Dalla scrittura si evince che le parti dei violini e della prima viola fossero destinate a strumentisti con buono smalto, mentre la parte del violoncello, molto semplice e compassata, evidentemente non era stata dal compositore pensata per se stesso. According to the Introduction to this superb scholarly and practical edition it is an arrangement of two movements from the String Trio No.S in Eb, Op.14 from 1772. Apparently the manuscript was re-discovered by the editor in 2010. Whilst perhaps not a masterpiece of the ilk of the Mozart string quintets, this newly published work is an extremely worthwhile venture and beautifully presented, including parts and full score. It would be extremely useful and enjoyable ensemble repertoire for string students getting together at chamber music schools or camps.
