Clarinet and Saxophone Magazine (Winter 2017)
... This Grand Duo Concertante was written in around 1844 although the accompaniment was probably written by pianist Michel Bergson who lists the work as his own Op 10. ... If you want something that comes close to the grandeur of Weber, if not quite matching the same musical heights, and you have a technical ability that can cope with Messager, then this will suit you. The highest note is A, four ledger lines up, with most writing within the middle register of the clarinet. It's a fun piece for Grade 8 standard although your accompanist will also need to be proficient. (Stephanie Reeve)

... The Grand Duo Brillant is a very interesting and high-quality virtuoso clarinet work, consisting of a cantabile introduction followed by an Andante Appassionato and a final intriguing Tempo di Polacca. This new, carefully prepared edition helps to resurrect a valuable work in the clarinet repertoire of the 19th century. (Luigi Magistrelli)
