The sixteen compositions published in this collection are an example of all the polyphonic techniques used by Sor in the works he wrote for the guitar. There are ten little studies, three minuets, a sample piece taken from the Méthode pour la guitare, the transcription of the March der Priester from Mozart’s Zauberflöte, and a final study conceived as a kind of motet ‘without words’. As well as their intrinsic artistic value, these pieces have been chosen because they are relatively easy to perform, therefore they can be used in preparation for the study of works which are technically and musically more difficult.
The fingerings by Piero Bonaguri have been conceived to highlight the polyphonic arrangement of the various pieces, even the simplest ones, developing technical solutions consistent with the movement of the parts and paying special attention to the control of the resonances produced by the use of the open strings.
