Italo Vescovo (*1953)

Italo Vescovo, born in Finale Ligure in 1953, after beginning his musical studies in Savona with Giuseppe Manzino, continued them at the “N. Paganini” Conservatory of Genoa under the guidance of Adelchi Amisano, getting a diploma in Composition, Vocal polyphonic composition (Vocal polyphony), Choral music and Choir conducting, later specializing with Aldo Clementi. He has obtained prizes in composition contests including, in 1981, the 8th Concorso Internazionale “Guido d’Arezzo” for polyphonic compositions, and in 2000 the international contest called by the Department of Music and Entertainment of Bologna University as part of the “Bologna European capital of culture” celebrations.
His works, some of which were specifically commissioned, have been included in the programs of important chamber and symphonic concert seasons in Italy and abroad (France, Germany, Japan, etc.), in festivals such as Antidogma musica in Turin, G.A.M.O. in Florence, S.I.M.C. in Bergamo, Festival della Valle d’Itria, Fermo Festival, Spaziomusica in Cagliari, Nuova Consonanza of Rome. As part of the program “Compositori contemporanei”, Rai-Filodiffusione dedicated a “portrait” to him, including the broadcasting of his music.
Along with his work as a composer and teacher, he carries on musicology research, editing unpublished music, work that he intensified after having attending the Applied Musical Philology Course in 1991-93 directed by Alberto Zedda at the Accademia d’Arte Lirica di Osimo.
Former member of the Associazione Compositori Liguri, he is now a member of the Associazione Nuova Consonanza di Roma. He was Professor of Complementary harmony and, later, of Harmony and Counterpoint at the “S. Giacomantonio” Conservatory in Cosenza (Italy), and since 1990 he has been Professor of Harmony and Counterpoint at the “G.B. Pergolesi” Conservatory in Fermo (Italy).
