Meditation from Thaïs is such a beautiful piece usually reserved for the violin. This tranquil arrangement in the original key of D major for cello has a guitar accompaniment consisting primarily of a pedal note at the beginning of each bar followed by ascending broken arpeggios. The cello part is written in the upper registers with the majority of the music in tenor clef, some treble clef and a small amount in the bass clef. The cellist would need to feel comfortable playing thumb position with a clear tone. ... This highly expressive piece requires much work for it to sound effortless. Sunday afternoon audiences will delight in hearing this enchanting melody as part of a cello/guitar recital.
